"THE EVIL QUEEN"
©️ Disney 2025
Oil on linen | 30 × 24 in.  (76 × 61 cm)

Part of a "Villains" series (ongoing)

This piece was created as a companion piece—or "antagonist piece," I'll call it—to my portrait of Snow White. Whereas Snow White, as "fairest of them all," is depicted in her humility, here the Evil Queen is depicted in her pride. Emerging from the smoky haze behind the queen is her witch form, a reflection of the queen's inner ugliness and a personification of her envy.
The posing of the queen’s original form and witch form leads the eye in a circular path between them. This emphasizes their relationship as two parts of one character. In a similar vein, the objects held by each personification—the jeweled box and the poisoned apple—sit along the same visual plane in the image; they line up with each other. I placed the objects in this way to subtly connect them, as they both represent key moments in the Evil Queen's story.
