This piece depicts Donald Duck as I personally know and love the character. Although Donald is certainly renowned and loved for his grumpy moments, to me, it's his radiating self-assuredness that gives him his charm.
In this portrait, warm colored light and a warm smile illuminate Donald emerging from an ocean of blue. The selective use of impasto—a technique of applying paint or pigment thickly so that it stands out from a surface—in highlights and lighter areas on Donald helps give him more of a three-dimensional form.

The backdrop of this piece was inspired by the title cards of Donald's classic cartoons. It was painted with a specific brush and technique that created a distinctive reflective pattern that pops the figure forward when the painting is viewed at an angle.
